where mediterranean warmth meets coastal soul.nestled just 400 meters from the bustling fishing harbour of port st. francis and a stone’s throw from iconic surf breaks, this coastal retreat in the eastern cape, south africa will capture the essence of laid-back luxury. anchored in the mediterranean/tuscan architectural language as required by local guidelines, the design blends sun-drenched textures, earthy tones, and graceful forms with a clean, contemporary edge. the home will be designed around the sun and sea breeze, with a strong emphasis on openness and outdoor living. every space unfolds toward the light courtyards, terraces, and patios extend the living areas into the landscape, blurring the boundaries between inside and out.the brief was clear: create a house that breathes, opens, and lives outdoors as much as it does within. set across two adjoining plots acquired by a family of avid sailors, whose lives orbit between the caribbean, the united states, and south africa. the first phase of the project brings to life a warm, inviting vacation house for their return visits. designed for family gatherings, easy entertaining, and slow living, the home will offer generous outdoor moments and quiet corners alike. the second adjacent plot remains reserved for future expansion, envisioned as a space to host extended family and friends. it will extend the home’s spirit of openness and connection.
